How to create a job-specific résumé from a job description
A job-specific résumé uses the same facts as your main résumé, reordered and reworded so the most relevant experience and the job's own keywords come first. ResumeGyani's job description résumé builder does the first draft; you do the final check.

Quick answer
To create a job-specific résumé on ResumeGyani, open the job description résumé builder, paste the full job description, upload your current résumé as a PDF, and let the AI tailor it. It rewrites your summary, bullets and skills around the job's requirements using only your facts, marks missing numbers as [X] placeholders, and shows what changed. Review every line, fill the placeholders, then download.
- Paste the whole job description, not just the title (at least a few lines).
- Upload your existing résumé, or skip and start from a draft you fill in yourself.
- Replace every [X] / [N%] placeholder with your real figure — or delete the clause.
Why tailor your résumé to each job?
Because recruiters and applicant tracking systems both look for the specific skills and words in the job description. A general résumé that says “data analysis” may be filtered out for a job that asks for “SQL, Power BI and A/B testing” — even if you have all three, but listed them on page two.
Tailoring is not lying. You keep the same jobs, dates, degrees and achievements. What changes is the order (most relevant first), the wording (the job's terms where they truly describe your work) and the emphasis (summary and skills aimed at this role).
How to create a job-specific résumé in ResumeGyani (step by step)
- 1
Open the job description builder
Go to the job description résumé builder. It works in three steps: Job Description → Upload Résumé → Enhanced Résumé.
- 2
Paste the full job description
Copy the whole posting from Naukri, LinkedIn, Indeed or the company site — responsibilities, requirements and “good to have”. It needs at least 50 characters and can be up to 10,000. You can also try importing it from the job URL; if that fails, paste the text.
- 3
Upload your current résumé
Upload your résumé as a PDF (up to 10 MB). The builder reads your details from it. No résumé yet? Skip this step and you get a draft structured for the job that you fill in with your own details.
- 4
Let the AI tailor it
The AI compares your résumé with the job description and rewrites your summary, experience bullets and skills section around what the job asks for.
- 5
Review the changes
Use the comparison and keyword views to see what changed and which job keywords are now covered. Edit anything directly in the preview.
- 6
Fill the placeholders and check
Replace every [X], [N] or [N%] with a real number or remove it. Then run the ATS score checker with the same job description.
- 7
Save and download
Save the version to your account with a name like “Analyst – Company – Oct 2026”. Downloading the PDF needs a plan: the Download Pack (₹399) or Pro from ₹699.
What does the AI change — and what does it never do?
The AI works only with the facts in your résumé and the words in the job description. It is instructed to keep your factual details exactly as they are.
| The AI does | The AI does not |
|---|---|
| Rewrite your summary for this role | Change your name, contact details, employers, job titles or dates |
| Reword and reorder bullets so relevant work comes first | Add jobs, companies, degrees or certifications you don't have |
| Use the job description's terms where they describe your real work | Claim you used a tool in a role when your résumé shows no evidence of it |
| Build the skills list from your skills plus skills named in the job description | Add tools from general knowledge that neither your résumé nor the job mentions |
| Insert [X] / [N%] placeholders where a number would help | Invent numbers, percentages, ₹ figures or team sizes |
One honest caveat: a skill from the job description can appear in your skills list even if your résumé has no proof of it. Remove any skill you can't discuss in an interview. You are responsible for the final version — the AI drafts, you decide.
Example: a bullet before and after tailoring
Job description (data analyst, e-commerce): “Build dashboards in Power BI, write SQL for ad-hoc analysis, track funnel conversion.” Original bullet from the candidate's résumé:
Before
Prepared weekly sales reports for the regional team using Excel and SQL.
After
Wrote SQL queries and built weekly sales reports tracking conversion across [N] regional stores, used by the regional team for stock and promotion decisions.
Same work, re-aimed at “SQL” and “conversion”. Power BI was not added because the candidate's résumé didn't mention it. Replace [N] with the real number of stores — or remove it.
Tips for a better tailored résumé
- Use the complete posting. A one-line job title gives the AI nothing to match.
- Start from your best résumé. The output can only be as good as the facts you upload.
- Mirror real terms, don't stuff. If the job says “stakeholder management” and you did it, use those words once in context — not five times.
- Check the top third. The summary and your most recent role are what a recruiter reads first; make sure they speak to this job.
- Tailor for jobs you really want. Five well-matched applications beat fifty generic ones.
- Save each version so you know exactly what you sent when the interview call comes.

Questions people ask
Is the job description builder different from the normal résumé builder?
Yes. The résumé builder is for creating and editing a résumé from scratch. The job description builder takes an existing résumé and one job description and produces a version tailored to that job.
Will the AI make up experience or numbers?
It is instructed not to. It keeps your employers, titles, dates and education, and where a number would help it inserts a placeholder like [X] for you to fill in. Always review the output and remove anything that isn't true.
Can I use it for multiple jobs?
Yes. Run it once per job and save each tailored version separately. Pro plans include unlimited tailoring; without Pro the number of tailored versions is limited.
What file format should I upload?
Upload your résumé as a PDF, up to 10 MB. If you don't have one, you can skip the upload and fill in a draft structured for the job.
Do I need to pay to tailor a résumé?
You can try it without paying. Downloading the PDF needs a plan — the Download Pack (₹399) or Pro from ₹699, one payment with no auto-renewal — and Pro is the plan for tailoring many versions.
How do I check that the tailored résumé matches the job?
Run it through the ATS score checker with the same job description. It shows which keywords are still missing and flags formatting issues.
